Baseball: Goodhue strikes late for victory over Blooming Prairie
Tied 6-6 in the top of the sixth inning, Goodhue's Alex Weckerling provided the Wildcats a cushion with a two-run single to secure an 8-6 victory in the regular-season finale Saturday at Blooming Prairie.
Weckerling's big hit came with the bases loaded, scoring Logan Breuer and Andy Johnson. Weckerling finished the day 2-for-4 with a double and three RBI.
"It was a good way for the guys to fight back," said Goodhue head coach Eric Schofield. "They didn't hang their heads, they fought back and went pitch-for-pitch."
Johnson was 2-for-2 with three runs, and Riley Bollum went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.
Riley Olson and Weston Fiebiger each went 2-for-4 with an RBI for the Awesome Blossoms.
Goodhue ends the regular season with a 5-14 record. Section 1A seeding will be announced on Monday.
