Baseball: Goodhue bags two against Triton
Wins are key any time of year, but especially so with section tournament seeding just around the corner. So a doubleheader sweep of Triton by Goodhue on Friday could help the Wildcats when the Section 1A playoffs roll around next week.
In Game 1, a 2-0 victory, Goodhue leaned on Riley Bollum. Bollum responded with seven strong innings, giving up six hits and six strikeouts with no walks to pick up the Wildcats’ fourth win of the year.
Goodhue’s two runs came in the fifth when Logan Breuer walked with the bases loaded, and Nate Altendorf singled in a run.
In Game 2, an 8-7 Goodhue victory, Alex Thomforde pitched a complete game, giving up three earned runs on six hits and four walks with five strikeouts.
After scoring a run in the first, three in the second and two in the third, the Wildcats held on as the Cobras scored six runs over the final four innings, including two in the seventh. But Goodhue turned a double play to end the game and preserve the victory.
Austin Buck went 2-for-4 with three RBI and a double while Riley Augustine, Alex Thomforde and Taylor Buck each had two hits.
Goodhue (5-11) will close the regular season at home against Byron on Monday.
