Baseball: Errors plague Goodhue in loss
Defense has been a solid part of Goodhue’s game this season, with the exception of two innings Monday afternoon. Six errors between the fourth and fifth innings, including four in the fourth, doomed the Wildcats in an 11-2 Hiawatha Valley League loss to Pine Island.
“There hadn’t been an issue until tonight, and it kind of snowballed on us,” said Goodhue head coach Eric Schofield. “We couldn’t seem to make a play to get out of the inning after that.”
The Panthers scored nine runs combined in the fourth and fifth, giving starting pitcher Aaron Gillard all he needed to pick up the win.
Alex Thomforde took the mound for the Wildcats, throwing four innings and giving up seven runs on seven hits and one walk to go along with two strikeouts. Only four of Thomforde’s runs were earned.
Riley Augustine and Austin Buck both finished 1-for-2 with an RBI for Goodhue, and Logan Breuer ended up 1-for-4 with a double.
The Wildcats (1-5) will take a trip to Cannon Falls Thursday for a conference doubleheader.
