Walks and hit batters proved to be troublesome for Zumbrota-Mazeppa Monday in a 7-4 loss to Triton.

The Cobras scored three runs in the second on one hit, and two in the third on one hit, with free passes accounting for the rest of the baserunners.

Cody Heitman helped the Cougars’ offensive cause, going 1-for-3 with an RBI. Jacob Ugland (1-for-3) and Brady Schoenfelder (1-for-4) also had hits for Z-M.

Schoenfelder took the loss on the mound after throwing five innings and giving up seven hits and five earned runs to go along with three walks and two strikeouts.

The Cougars (1-6) have a busy week ahead beginning with a home game against La Crescent on Tuesday. A trip to Pine Island follows on Wednesday, with a doubleheader against Lake City looming on Thursday.
