Barnfest brings something for everyone to enjoy
Red House Records is pleased to present their fifth annual music festival Saturday, Aug. 3 at Hobgoblin Music's Outdoor Amphitheater in Red Wing.
Running from 1 to 7:30 p.m. the Red House Barnfest features an entire day of folk, indie and roots music with performances by John Gorka, Michael Johnson, Tracy Grammer, Peter Ostroushko and Dean Magraw, Chastity Brown, The Roe Family Singers and Molly Maher.
In addition, the Minnesota Songwriter Spotlight will feature elusive singer-songwriter Eric Peltoniemi.
Better known perhaps as the President of Red House Records, Peltoniemi has long been an acclaimed songwriter, composer and musician, as well.
For over 4 decades he has worked several sides of the music industry — as a performing artist, songwriter, graphic designer, Grammy-winning producer and record label executive.
Peltoniemi’s long relationship with folk and country music began in a small farming town in the early 1960s when, as a teenager, he began performing on his grandma's old guitar at county fairs, dances, township halls - even boxing matches.
Peltoniemi’s original songs have been recorded by artists like Bok, Trickett & Muir; Robin and Linda Williams; Sally Rogers and Claudia Schmidt; Lisa Asher; Trova; Prudence Johnson, and the Finnish roots band Koinurit, among others.
The “festival within the festival,” known as KIDFEST, returns with separate children's activities and musical performances in the refurbished, air-conditioned barn and outdoor splash area with kiddie pools.
Don’t forget to try out the array of food trucks from the Twin Cities including The Chef Shack, Rusty Taco and Kona. Local barbeque master Pigs & Wigs BBQ will also be serving.
