Artwork on display at public library
St. John’s Lutheran School held its annual academic fair Jan. 31. Students created paintings and drawings, sculpture and modeled pieces, recycled and found-object art, textile and needlework, pottery and tile work, paper-mâché and collages, photographs and many other unique art projects.
An independent jury of educators and members of the local art community interviewed students to discuss their projects and encourage their creative efforts. Ribbons were awarded by the jurors in each grade category. At the exhibit opening, students and their parents were invited to vote for their favorite artwork. Two unusual pieces, a razor-sharp metal dragon and a playable, doll-sized 9-hole mini-golf course based on “The Hobbit” book, came away with People’s Choice awards.Selections from fair are on exhibit throughout February at the Red Wing Public Library.Awards of merit:Kindergarten — First place: Lilly Lopez; second: Nathan Rollins; third: Cameron JablonskeGrades 1 and 2 — First: Eli Klatt; second: Helena Jonas; third: Flora Wegner; Grades 3 and 4 — First : Joey Engel; second Gina Pritchard; third: Nathan Shannon-GrossGrades 5 and 6 — First: Mahreah Bain; second: Anna Pritchard; third: Brianna BruceGrades 7 and 8 — First: Wade Hofius; second: Reece Price; third: Katie Engel; People’s Choice, adult votes: Wade Hofius; student votes: Katie EngelHonorable mention, adult votes: Cheyenne Verdugo; student votes: Tori Pritchard
