Art Splash: iron pour and concert planned
ZUMBROTA -- A studio tour encompassing Zumbrota, Pine Island and Oronoco, along with an iron pour and a concert in Zumbrota, will take place Sept. 13. Sponsors are the Zumbrota Area Arts Council and Pine Area People for the Arts.
The Zumbro River Art Splash will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. More than 30 artists and authors are showing their creations at studios in the three communities and also at three central locations -- Zumbrota's Public Library and Crossings at Carnegie, and Pine Island's City Hall. Admission is free.
Brochures, including a map to all the studios and a list of artists, are available at area merchants, at Crossings, at www.zaac. org, or by going to www. crossingsatcarnegie.com and clicking on Art Splash.
The iron pour, which returns for the third year, will get under way at 2 p.m. near Crossings, where foundry specialists will begin melting iron.
Anyone interested in making a custom-designed cast iron artwork can register on the arts council Web site or by calling (507) 732-7616.
Cost is $65 for ZAAC members and $75 for non-members.
There is no charge to watch as the molten iron is poured over carved sand molds starting around 7 p.m.
During the iron pour, a free concert will take place. Grayson, a five-piece band from Minneapolis, will perform original Americana music from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.
