MADISON -- Jack Radabaugh will be one busy man this evening.

But it will be a good kind of busy. The Ellsworth head wrestling coach will have four wrestlers in the finals of the WIAA State Individual Wrestling Tournament at the Kohl Center.

Hayden Hauschildt will be back to defend his state title. He defeated Sugar River Co-op's previously unbeaten Kalvin York 8-5 at 145 pounds in Division 2. Sam Huppert will be back to the finals as well, looking to win his first state championship after beating Daniel Bahn of Clinton 4-3 at 112.

New finalists for the Panthers are D.J. Yarwood at 119 and Shawn Helmueller at 152. Yarwood won 4-3 over Adams-Friendship's Jacob Volkey at 112 and Helmueller beat Pewaukee's David Phillips 3-2.

In all of these semifinal matches, Panther wrestlers were able to score key points in the third period to either break ties or make come-from-behind to win.

"Six minutes is just the beginning of the match for us," Radabaugh said.

"We have kids who are in excellent shape who know how to keep position and technique when they get fatigued."

Helmueller can attest to such conditioning.

"Our practices before the state meet consist of a lot of drilling and lot of 30 second situations that gets you ready for a match like I had." he said.

Huppert will take on Bloomer's Jordan Poirier (43-5) in a re-match of the sectional final. Yarwood faces one of the top wrestlers in the state in Cuba City-Southwestern's Jarod Donar (45-0). Hauschildt takes on Justin Washburn (27-5) of Iowa-Grant/Highland and Helmueller has a tough opponent in Lodi's Logan Einerson (46-1).

Finals matches begin at 6 p.m. Four is the most finalists Ellsworth has ever had, beating the old record of three set back in 2000.
