Amateur baseball: Thygesen helps Red Wing get past Hager City

Josh Thygesen took a big step in the right direction Wednesday night.

He pitched five innings and didn't allow a run to earn the win on the mound in Red Wing's road victory over Hager City by a score of 10-2. Prior to Wednesday, he had only thrown one inning since Memorial Day because he has been battling elbow issues.

"The biggest thing for us is just seeing Josh get on the mound again for us," player/manager Corey Tauer said. "He actually looked really good. That was a very good sign."

Thygesen struck out five while only walking one.

"Now the key is, how is he going to feel a week from now," Tauer said.

Other injured pitchers -- Brett Gadient and Steve Boldt -- are getting better, according to Tauer, and would be key pieces for Red Wing to have in place for the playoffs.

Red Wing had 13 hits against Hager City pitching -- Darren Georgakas gave up seven runs (six earned) and seven innings of work to get tagged with the loss.

Red Wing's Tyler Goering went 2-for-5 with two RBI and one run. Adam Thygesen went 3-for-3 with an RBI and two runs. Andy Schilling scored two runs and knocked one in and Augie Lindmark had three hits and one RBI as the designated hitter.

"I'm proud of the way we swung the bats," Tauer said. "It was a good night at the plate."

Henry Jaeger had two hits for the Skeeters.

"We still have a lot of guys battling for positions for the playoffs, some guys took advantage tonight," said Tauer, who shuffled the lineup in the game.

Red Wing (22-10) will play in the Shakopee Tournament against the host team Friday. The Skeeters will head to Bay City for a St. Croix Valley League contest Saturday.
