Amateur Baseball Roundup: Zumbrota holds off Stewartville-Racine

Zumbrota 9, Stewartville-Racine 6

Leading by as much as 6-0, the Zumbrota Tigers came away with a 9-6 Twin Rivers League victory over Stewartville-Racine Wednesday in Stewartville.

Zumbrota’s top hitter was Eric Swiggum, who went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, three RBI and three runs scored. Cody Lodermeier also had three hits in the victory, hitting for a double and two RBI. Zach Vanostrand was 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored, and AJ Yusten got the complete-game victory for the Tigers, striking out five in the process.

Today, Zumbrota hosts Kasson for a home doubleheader, followed by a home game against Owatonna on Sunday.

Cannon Falls 13, New Market 3

Thanks to a five-run seventh inning, Cannon Falls made short work of visiting New Market on Wednesday with a 13-3 seven-inning victory at John Burch Park.

Bears leadoff batter Zeke Williams pounded the ball on Wednesday, going 4-for-5 with two runs and an RBI. Brandon Voth was 1-for-2 with three runs and a solo home run that led off the seventh inning. Ryan Brintnall was 3-for-4 with four RBI, helping a Cannon Falls offense that had 14 hits in the victory.

Getting the win for the Bears was Michael Growette, who threw five scoreless innings.
