Amateur Baseball Roundup: Miesville roughs up Northfield
Led by a strong pitching performance from Andrew Werner, and big offensive outings by David Vogelgesang and Colin Keefe, Miesville cruised to a 14-0 seven-inning Classic Cannon Valley League victory Sunday in Northfield. Werner picked up a complete-game victory, striking out four and giving up just three hits and a walk.
Vogelgesang finished with a home run, four RBI and two runs, and Keefe went 2-for-3 with a home run, four RBI and two runs in the Mudhens’ victory. Alex LaShomb added to Miesville’s offensive surge, going 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, two RBI and a run scored, and Charles Bruchu scored three times.
The Mudhens (12-5, 8-3 CCVL) host Austin on Wednesday.
Lake City 9, Dundas 0 (forfeit)
Lake City was issued its second win of the season on Sunday after visiting Dundas was forced to forfeit due to having only eight players.
The Serpents (2-10, 1-9 CCVL) play host to Randolph on Wednesday.
Plum City 5, Bay City 0
Bay City was held to just two hits as the Bombers fell 5-0 to Plum City in St. Croix Valley League play Sunday in Plum City.
With the loss, the Bombers’ losing streak is at seven games.
Collecting Bay City’s only hits were Steve Bowe and Tim Eaton. On the mound, the Bombers’ Jordan Eggenberger was tagged with the loss after allowing four runs (three earned) and four hits in 3 1/3 innings.
Bay City (8-11) looks to return to the win column Friday at Ellsworth.
Pine Island 5, Bay City 4
Trailing 5-2 in the seventh inning, Bay City tacked on a pair of runs to make it a one-run game. But that was as close as the Bombers could get on Saturday as they fell 5-4 to the Pioneers in Bay City.
Mitch Matter went 2-for-5 with a double, two RBI and a run scored, and Derek Ulvenes added two hits, two RBI and a stolen base for Bay City. Shane Lampman went 3-for-4 with a stolen base in the loss.
Carsten Meyer went six innings on the mound for Bay City, allowing nine hits and five earned runs in the loss.
