Gibart, Red Wing's co-manager, allowed three runs on nine hits and one walk in seven innings during the first game of the Aces Invite. He struck out two and settled down after giving up six hits in the first two innings.

"The first couple innings, they were jumping all over my fastballs," Gibart said, "so Jimmy (Bohmbach, Red Wing's catcher) and I started to pitch backwards."

The Aces' offense was spearheaded by Kyle Blahnik, who finished 3-for-4 with two doubles and four RBI.

"It was one of those days where you show up and the swing feels right," Blahnik said.

The Fighting Fish got on the board first in the opening inning as Brian Giebel led off and Alex Call reached base on Blahnik's error at shortstop. After an infield fly, Nathan Brom brought home Giebel with a single for a 1-0 lead. River Falls added another run in the second inning as Trevor Gutting led off with a double and scored on a single by Josh Halling.

But in the third inning, Red Wing responded as Blahnik brought home two runs with a single to tie the game. The Aces added two more in the inning for a 4-2 lead.

"There was definitely a little extra focus trying to atone for that early mistake," Blahnik said.

Red Wing scored another run in the fourth inning for a 5-2 lead and the Fighting Fish responded with a run of their own in the sixth inning before Blahnik gave the Aces some breathing room with a two-RBI double in the seventh inning.

Giebel was 3-for-5 with a run scored to lead River Falls at the top of the order.

Red Wing will play two games today at the Ath. The Aces host Coon Rapids at 11 a.m. and Fairmont at 8 p.m.
