Amateur Baseball: Late surge leads Aces over Hastings
Red Wing Minnesota 2760 North Service Drive / P.O. Box 15 55066

It was a tight game for five innings between the Red Wing Aces and the Hastings Hawks on Friday. But in the sixth inning, the Aces blew the doors open with three runs and continued to roll through the end of the game, securing a 9-2 Classic Cannon Valley League win in Hastings.

With the game tied 1-1 in the sixth, Jimmy Bohmbach got Red Wing rolling with an RBI single that scored Zach Garner. Then with two outs, Josh Thygesen hit a double that provided the game-winning run, scoring Bohmbach and Dave Jenson to put the Aces up 4-1. They went on to add two runs in the seventh, followed by three runs in the top of the ninth.

Offensively, Bohmbach, Jenson, Josh Thygesen and Adam Thygesen each had two hits, accounting for eight of Red Wing’s 12 knocks in the game. Bohmbach, Alex Quiding and Josh Thygesen each had two RBI, and Garner scored three runs in the victory.

On the mound, Aaron Johnson picked up the victory after striking out 10 while allowing seven hits, two runs and two walks in seven innings. Mike Hommes came in and threw two perfect innings of relief.

Jaryd Marks and Nick Horsch each were 1-for-4 with an RBI for the Hawks in the loss.

The Aces (4-3, 2-1 CCVL) head to Lake City on Sunday, then face the rival Miesville Mudhens for the annual Memorial Day game Monday at the Red Wing Athletic Field.
