Amateur Baseball: Late blast puts Bay City over Elmwood
Thanks to a late-inning grand slam by Derek Ulvenes, Bay City improved to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the St. Croix Valley League with a 4-3 victory over Elmwood Saturday in Elmwood, Wis.
Scoreless through four innings, Elmwood struck first with an RBI double by Seth Maier and a one-run single by Eric Konsela. The Expos went up 3-0 in the bottom of the seventh when a sacrifice fly by Adam Churchill scored Tyler Churchill.
But with two outs in the top of the eighth, Ulvenes blasted his grand slam over the right-field fence to give the Bombers the lead, and eventually the victory.
Tony Schultz went all nine innings for Bay City, striking out eight and allowing eight hits and two walks.
The Bombers resume play Wednesday at Cannon Falls.
