Amateur Baseball: Gibart takes down Railcats
Red Wing Aces pitcher Andy Gibart only gave up four hits to Randolph in seven innings of work Sunday afternoon at home. The strong pitching performance led to a 9-1 victory and gave the Aces their eighth Classic Cannon Valley League win.
Aces player/manager Jimmy Bohmbach hit a two-run home run in the third and Zach Laffey provided a two-run double to lead the way offensively for the Aces.
"I was seeing the ball and being as patient as I could and not swinging at bad pitches," Bohmbach said.
Bohmbach also pointed to strong baserunning and his team's good eye at the plate in the win.
Tyler Goering and Dustin LaRue pitched the eighth and ninth innings, respectively. The Railcats scored an unearned run off of LaRue in the final frame.
Gibart walked only one and struck out one in the win.
"He threw a lot of strikes, which is what we like and our defense took care of everything else," Bohmbach said.
Brent Mahlstedt suffered the loss and Bryan Hegseth went 2-for-4 for the Railcats.
Red Wing improved to 17-4 overall and 8-2 in the CCVL. The Aces host the Menomonie Eagles Tuesday night. The game starts at 7:30 p.m.
