Amateur Baseball: Bats go quiet for Red Wing against Northfield
Offense was hard to come by Wednesday night as Red Wing fell 3-1 on the road against Northfield.
Jackson Meland shut down the Aces for seven innings, allowing one unearned run on four hits and four walks while striking out seven. Nate Gelle picked up the save for the Knights with two scoreless innings of relief.
Brady Schroeder started on the mound for Red Wing and gave up three runs (one earned) on five hits and two walks in 6 2/3 innings. He struck out two in the loss.
No player had more than one hit in the game.
Zach Garner was 0-for-3 but had two stolen bases and scored the Aces' only run in the third inning. Steve Boldt was 1-for-4 with a triple, Adam Thygesen went 1-for-4 and Jimmy Bohmbach was 1-for-4. Ty Buck was 1-for-1 with a walk.
Nolan Baker was 1-for-2 with an RBI, Troy Deden was 1-for-3 with a double and a run scored and Scott Benjamin went 1-for-2 with an RBI for Northfield.
The Knights went up 1-0 in the second inning and added their final two runs in the seventh inning.
Red Wing hosts River Falls Friday at 6 p.m. in the first game of the Aces Invite. The Aces will play two games on Saturday, facing Coon Rapids at 11 a.m. and Fairmont at 8 p.m.
