Amateur baseball: Aces suffer first loss
The St. Paul Capitals scored three runs in the top of the eighth to defeat the Aces 10-9 Friday at the Red Wing Athletic Field. It was Red Wing's first loss of the season.
Jordan Warren suffered the loss. He allowed three runs (all earned) on four hits in 1 1/3 innings. Josh Thygesen, who was battling the flu, started and pitched three innings. He surrendered five runs on eight hits.
The Capitals finished with 17 hits.
Kyle Blahnik led Red Wing at the plate, going 3-for-5 with a double and four RBI. Zach Laffey finished 2-for-5 with a pair of RBI. Chris Guetzlaff, Tyler Goering and Corey Tauer each had two hits. Both of Goering's hits went for two bases.
"We're still hitting the ball well," said Tauer, Red Wing's player/manager. He added: "We should still be very confident going into the weekend."
Red Wing (9-1 overall) travels Sunday to Hampton.
