Amateur Baseball: Aces rocked by Shakopee
After opening the season with two straight wins, the Red Wing Aces hit a wall on Tuesday, taking a 16-0 seven-inning drubbing from the Shakopee Indians in Shakopee.
The Indians went off for 18 hits in the victory, going up 10-0 after three innings. Leading the way was Mark Dolenc, who went 4-for-5 with two home runs, two doubles, four RBI and five runs. Troy Wasiloski chipped in with four hits, four RBI and two runs for Shakopee.
In the top of the first inning, Red Wing looked set to tack on a run with back-to-back doubles from Kyle Blahnik and Steve Boldt. But Indians pitcher Chris Rupert struck out the next two batters to end the threat.
The Aces would not pick up another hit until the fourth with a single by Jimmy Bohmbach.
Josh Thygesen was pegged with the loss, allowing nine hits and nine runs (six earned) in two innings of work.
Red Wing (2-1) returns to the Red Wing Athletic Field at 7:30 p.m. Friday against Elko.
