Amateur Baseball: Aces' offense stifles Serpents
With five players finishing with two hits apiece, the Red Wing offense powered the team to an 11-5 Classic Cannon Valley League victory over Lake City Sunday at the Red Wing Athletic Field.
Finishing with 13 total hits, the Aces had two-hit games from Zach Garner, Jimmy Bohmbach, Zach Laffey, Kyle Blahnik and Dave Jensen. Laffey drove in two runs with a two-run home run in the fourth inning that scored Steve Boldt.
Leading 1-0 after the first inning, Red Wing took command in the second with a four-run outing. Kyle Blahnik scored on a passed ball, and then Jenson scored on a groundout by Mike Stegora. Adam Thygesen brought home Garner on a double, then eventually crossed home on a wild pitch to put Red Wing up 5-0.
Garner, Blahnik and Jenson each scored twice in the victory. On the mound, Andy Gibart went six innings for the victory.
Matt Miller led the Serpents' offense, going 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. Ben Edelbach, Alex Nelson, Hunter Baab and Brett Gwaltney also had two hits apiece in the loss. Gwaltney also added a double and a run scored. Kyle Sursely was pegged with the loss after allowing 10 hits and 11 runs (six earned) in six innings.
Both teams are on the road Monday as Red Wing (7-1) goes to Miesville, while Lake City (0-2) travels to Hastings.
