Amateur Baseball: Aces drop road tilt with Cold Spring
Two miscues proved costly for Red Wing in the eighth inning Friday on the road against the Cold Spring Springers.
An error allowed Zach Femrite to reach base and a single by Ben Griffin notched the winning run with the help of a bobbled ball in right field as Cold Spring won the game 4-3.
Jordan Warren pitched 4 1/3 innings for the Aces (7-3), allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits and two walks. Brady Schroeder picked up the loss for Red Wing, giving up an unearned run on one hit in 2 2/3 innings.
Zach Garner led the Aces at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Adam Thygesen, Steve Boldt, Kyle Blahnik and Jimmy Bombach each tallied a hit in the loss.
Griffin finished 2-for-2, Brian Hansen was 2-for-4 and Travis Cariveau went 2-for-4 with two RBI to lead the Springers.
Red Wing took a 1-0 lead in the third inning and a chance to score a run on Garner's double in the fourth inning but Tyler Goering was thrown out at home.
Cold Spring responded with two runs in the fifth inning. The Springers grabbed a 3-1 lead with a run in the sixth inning before the Aces tied the game with two runs in the seventh. Both teams had seven hits and two errors.
Tyler Geislinger was the winning pitcher, throwing three perfect innings with three strikeouts.
Red Wing is back in action Wednesday on the road against the Eau Claire Cavaliers.
