Allan Louis Berg, 78, Red Wing, formerly of Minneapolis, died Thursday at The Villa at Hi Park in Red Wing. Born June 30, 1930, in Centuria, Wis. to Leonard and Ida (Swan) Berg, he attended school in rural Polk County and started working at Donaldson's Department Store at the age of 16. He married Beverly Swanson on July 21, 1957, at the Soul's Harbor Church in Minneapolis.
Death of veteran: He joined the U.S. Army and served during the Korean Conflict. After being honorably discharged, he returned to Donaldson's until his retirement, having worked there for 40 years. After retirement, he worked at the Walker Place in Minneapolis as a bus driver and did handyman work. He enjoyed fishing and had been an usher at Christ Church in Minneapolis.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly of Richfield; brothers, Leslie of Redondo Beach, Calif., Ronald of Minong, Wis. and Richard of Andover, Minn.; sister Charlotte (Edward) Watzl of Welch. He was preceded in death by a brother, Russell and an infant sister, Anna.
Funeral Service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at New River Assemblies of God Church in Red Wing with the Rev. Tom Johnson officiating. Burial with military honors will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday at Mahn Family Funeral Homes, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and for one hour prior to the service at the church.
