Aces clinch two seed

Aaron Johnson's stellar performance on the mound and Jimmy Bohmbach's two-run shot in the bottom of the fifth inning helped Red Wing come out victorious in its final league game of the season. The Aces won 3-2 against Lake City Sunday afternoon at home, giving them the two seed in the Classic Cannon Valley League.

Bohmbach hit the fourth changeup he saw in his fifth inning at-bat over the fence while Kyle Blahnik was on first to give his team the 3-0 lead. Red Wing never looked back, as Lake City scored a run in the seventh and eighth innings.

Johnson fell into a pitcher's duel with Serpent's starter Brett Gwaltney, as each went eight innings in a game that didn't showcase the usual dangerous offenses.

"Aaron definitely threw great," Aces player/manager Bohmbach said. "They didn't really hit the ball too hard off of him."

Johnson finished with seven strikeouts and didn't walk a batter in his eight innings of work. He scattered six hits.

Steve Boldt came in for the save in the ninth and struck out the side. He also finished 2-for-4 at the plate.

"He was throwing hard and throwing strikes," Bohmbach said. "He was throwing it right by them."

The Aces finished with a league record of 14-4 and improved to 24-7 overall. They play the Austin Red Stripes at home on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.
