Dowse to continue to lead Humane Society
In May, Marcy Dowse stepped in as the interim director of the Humane Society of Goodhue County. The Humane Society had experienced several leadership changes and needed stability for the organization.
Dowse, a retired community volunteer, stepped in to take the leadership role. For the last six months she has led the organization including the successful Gala Dinner in October and a more stable financial situation. She has agreed to stay for an additional six months.
"Marcy agreed to help us until May 2018. Her skills in nonprofit management, marketing and fundraising will help us build a stronger organization," board chair Karen Seaberg said. "She can rely on the staff for their expertise in animal management issues. This is a real step forward for us and we look forward to the next six months to make this an even stronger organization."
Immediate priorities for the organization are an annual giving campaign that begins on Give to the Max Day, Nov. 16.
"Annual giving is a critical component of nonprofit organizations like the Humane Society," Dowse said. "The majority of our funding comes from people in the community. We appreciate the support we receive in all ways — no matter what the gift — but the time has come to ask the community to provide additional support."
Dowse will serve as director through May 2018. The Humane Society will begin a search for a permanent director in January 2018.
