The Red Wing School Board held its regular meeting on January 8, 2018 in the RWHS Media Center. Board members, Superintendent Karsten Anderson, staff and public were present. Chair Farrar called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m.
Motion made by Anderson and seconded by Borgschatz to approve the meeting agenda as presented. Motion carried 7-0.
2. Election of Officers
Nominations for Board Chair were solicited: Board member Christensen
nominated Diercks. Board member Borgschatz nominated Anderson.
Vote was by hand show: 5 for Diercks (Christensen, Diercks, Farrar, Jones and Roe), 2 for Anderson (Borgschatz and Anderson). Arlen Diercks is the new Board Chair.
Nominations for Vice Chair were solicited: Board member Farrar nominated Roe. Board member Christensen nominated Jones.
Vote was by hand show: 4 for Jones (Borgschatz, Christensen, Diercks and Jones), 3 for Roe (Anderson, Farrar and Roe). Heidi Jones is the new Vice Chair.
Nominations for Clerk were solicited: Motion made by Farrar and seconded by Anderson to to cease and cast a unanimous nomination for Bethany Borgschatz for Clerk. Motion carried 7-0.
Nominations for Treasurer were solicited: Board member Farrar nominated
Anderson. Board member Jones nominated Christensen.
Vote was by hand show: 5 for Christensen (Borgschatz, Christensen, Diercks, Jones and Roe), 2 for Anderson (Anderson and Farrar). Mike Christensen is the new Treasurer.

effective December 11, 2017.
4. Resignation: Peggy Hansen, Floating Food Service Worker, effective
December 6, 2017; Charlie Brown, District Maintenance, effective January 5, 2018; Peter Schreifels, Special Ed Para at RWHS, effective December 13, 2017.
Motion made by Jones and seconded by Borgschatz to approve the consent agenda as presented. Motion carried 7-0.
4.2 Meeting Schedule: Motion made by Borgschatz and seconded by Farrar to approve the school board meeting schedule for 2018 as amended to include the board workshop on January 22nd at 4:00 in the RWHS Media Center. Motion carried 7-0.
4.3 Salary of Board Members and Officers: Motion made by Jones and seconded by Anderson to approve the following salaries for board members and officers in 2018:
• Chair, $3100
• Clerk, $2900
• Board Members, $2400
Motion carried 7-0.
4.4 School Board Committees: Motion made by Farrar and seconded by Anderson to table the 2018 Red Wing School Board Committees and Liaisons. Chair Diercks will go over the committee assignments and present them at the January 22nd meeting. Motion carried 7-0.
4.5 Official Newspaper: Motion made by Christensen and seconded by Farrar to designate the Republican Eagle as the official newspaper of the Red Wing School District. Motion carried 7-0.
4.6 Depositories: Motion made by Jones and seconded by Christensen to name the following as depositories for school district funds for transactions and
investment purposes for the 2018 year:
First Farmers & Merchants (Red Wing)
Associated Bank (Red Wing)
Associated Bank (PMA Securities, Inc.)
Wells Fargo Bank (Red Wing)
Wells Fargo Bank (Minneapolis)
U.S. Bank (Minneapolis)
MN School District Liquid Asset Fund
Motion carried 7-0.
4.7 Legal Counsel: Motion made by Borgschatz and seconded by Roe to
designate the law firm Kennedy & Graven as the primary legal advisor for the school district and O’Meara, Leer, Wagner & Kohl as the legal advisor for
matters affiliated with the Office of Civil Rights AND to authorize the Superintendent, Business Manager, and the Board Chair to initiate contact with legal
counsel. Motion carried 7-0.
4.8 Electronic Fund Transfers: Motion made by Borgschatz and seconded by Jones to authorize Jackie Paradis (Business Manager) and Karsten Anderson (Superintendent) to initiate electronic fund transfers. Motion carried 7-0.
4.9 Corporate Credit Cardholders: Motion made by Anderson and seconded by Farrar to approve the list of credit cardholders as presented.
