Hispanic Outreach named organization of the year

NAVIGATE MN Board Chair Iris Altamirano (left) presents its organization of the year award to Lucy Richardson, Hispanic Outreach executive director, and Williams Ortiz Arizmendi, Hispanic Outreach program and services coordinator.

Hispanic Outreach of Goodhue County has been named Latinx organization of the year by NAVIGATE MN, a nonprofit devoted to helping Minnesota's immigrant population achieve success through higher education.

The award was one of five distributed by NAVIGATE MN at its 10th annual Minnesotanxs gala and award ceremony Sept. 29, 2017. This year marks the first time that Hispanic Outreach has been recognized with a Minnesotanxs award.

"This means a lot to the organization," said Williams Ortiz Arizmendi, Hispanic Outreach program and services coordinator.

"We've been working hard to do something here, and getting recognized ... it encourages us to keep going forward."

The organization of the year award is a recognition of Hispanic Outreach's commitment to serving and advancing the well-being of the latinx community in Minnesota through quality services, community engagement and outstanding leadership.

Arizmendi added, "It was a huge honor. I'm proud of the work that I'm doing and the organization itself."
