Stepping on safer streets and sidewalks
Live Healthy Red Wing, in conjunction with the city and support from the Center for Prevention at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota, encourages residents this weekend to think about what they would like to change at Old West Main Street.
In an effort to promote a safer area for pedestrians, Live Healthy presents Reimagine Old West Main Street.
The intersection at Jackson and Old West Main streets features temporary sidewalk expansions, creative crosswalks and a four-way stop sign for an easier and safer July 28-Aug 6. Eco-friendly, water-soluble, temporary paint was used.
Those who stop by can enjoy free activities, from hula-hooping to rock-painting, as well as visiting the plant display "Local, Wild, Edible" with the Environmental Learning Center and "Make-A-Mosiac" with ArtReach. Make-A-Mosiac station is open during Rivery City Days in the bump-out area noon to 4 p.m. both today and Sunday.
Once the project wraps up, the ideas and opinions gathered from the survey and public input will be shared with the city and used for future plans in the 2021 reconstruction of Old West Main Street.
