Quam shares Welch history, family stories

Dorothy Gruber Quam will be at the Cannon River Inn in Welch 1-4 p.m. Saturday, June 10, to sign copies of her book.

Former Red Wing area resident Dorothy Gruber Quam will be at the Cannon River Inn in Welch 1-4 p.m. Saturday, June 10, signing copies of her memoir, "A Round Barn and a Pond Full of Frogs."

In the book, Quam shares what it was like growing up on a Welch Township farm in the 1940s and '50s. She writes in detail about threshing grain, putting up loose hay and attending one-room country schools. In one chapter she concentrates on the history of Welch and her ancestors' role in the early history of village's community.

Quam graduated from Red Wing Central High School in 1956 and was a staff writer for the Republican Eagle in the 1970s and '80s.

Her books are available at Fair Trade Books in Red Wing, the Goodhue County History Center and at the Cannon River Inn in Welch.
