Fish house dedication is Sept. 7

A dedication ceremony for the fish cleaning station in Colvill Park is planned for Sept. 7. The station was built in memory of Ralph Diercks, who was very involved in fishing activities in Red Wing and had tried to get a fish house in Red Wing for years.

Dan Ramthun organized the project and raised funds. Red Wing Public Works also assisted.

The event will be at 1 p.m. at Colvill Park.

Omaha fall tour trip planned

Spots are still available for the Goodhue County Extension Home Study Fall Tour for members and friends Oct. 1-3 in Omaha, NE.

Events and attractions planned include General Crooks House, toilet paper museum, pipe organ tour and concert, the Surf Ballroom and lunch at Big Mama's Kitchen.

Cost for the trip is $325 per person if there are two per room, $300 per person for three in a room and $285 for four per room. The cost includes admission to all attractions, entertainment, three breakfasts, two lunches, bus transportation and two nights at the Ramada Plaza.

Soil class is Sept. 11

A class called Soil Health/Cover Crops will be presented by Thomas Steger from USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service at 7 p.m. Wednesday Sept. 11 in the Red Wing High School Courtyard Café.

The class will cover soil health including discussions on "soil critters," recognizing healthy soil and the long-term ramifications of poor soil health. Steger also will discuss the use of cover crops, mulch and plant diversity.

The class, which costs $5, is co-sponsored by Goodhue County Extension Master Gardeners and Red Wing Community Education.
