Uffda Shop receives statewide honor
In addition to celebrating its 40th anniversary, the Uffda Shop recently noted an additional festdag.
The Minnesota Retailers Association announced the winners of the 2017 Minnesota's Retail Champion Awards in September. The Uffda Shop won for best customer experience.
Association President Bruce Nustad said the Uffda Shop's nomination came from within the Red Wing community by a peer organization.
"The Uffda Shop is a mainstay of Red Wing and it embraces Minnesota's Scandinavian history through not only its products but its customer experience," Nustad said. "Visitors from around the world flock to the Uffda Shop to see its unique products and interact with owners Sara and Arne Skyberg, and their team. The Uffda Shop creates a uniquely Minnesota customer experience."
The MnRA started the award process by putting out a statewide call for nominations in 12 categories. A panel of peer judges reviewed nearly six dozen nominations and selected the top nominee in each category.
Red Wing Area Chamber of Commerce President Patty Brown said the chamber was delighted to hear of the Uffda Shop's recognition.
"In today's highly competitive retail market, stores have had to become creative to keep their advantage and the Uffda Shop has certainly done that. Their staff is so experienced, genuine and caring that it's easy to see how they won the customer experience award," Brown said. "We're thrilled they are thriving in our Red Wing community and that they're being publicly recognized for all of their hard work."
Sara and Arne Skyberg will be recognized today during the inaugural Retail Rally at the Opus College of Business at the University of St. Thomas in Minneapolis.
The other categories and winners were: Academic Partner of the Year, University of St. Thomas; Best Place to Work, Thrifty White Pharmacy; Elected Official of the Year, Minneapolis City Council member Blong Yang; Advocate of the Year, Steven Rush of Holiday Companies; Outstanding Achievement, Maureen Bausch, chief executive officer of Super Bowl Host Committee; Retail Community of the Year, Hopkins Business & Civic Association; Retail Employee of the Year, Brooke Borg of 36 Lyn Refuel Station; Retail Innovation, Duluth Pack; Retailer of the Year, Norby's; Social Responsibility, Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity ReStore; Vendor Partner of the Year, Master Technology Group.
"We are proud to recognize 12 innovative retailers and partners that rose to the top following a robust process to identify Minnesota's Retail Champions," Nustad said. "The retail industry has a deep impact on Minnesota communities, and these award recipients are truly representative of what's great about retail across the state."
