Notebook: Johnson leads Minnesota Auctioneers

Rod Johnson, a Cannon Falls auctioneer, is the new president of the Minnesota State Auctioneers Association.

The familiar voice of the Minnesota Timberwolves will lead the Minnesota State Auctioneers Association this year.

Rod Johnson of Cannon Falls became the organization's president last week at the annual convention in St. Cloud, Minn. The owner of Johnson Auctioneering was vice president last year and has served on association's board for three years.

Johnson started in the auction business in 2005, but this is his 17th year as the public address announcer for the Minnesota Timberwolves. In 2007, he was the Minnesota and Wisconsin state champion auctioneer.

The Minnesota State Auctioneers Association holds a three-day annual conference and show in January that features educational seminars and the Minnesota Champion Auctioneer contest. That events attract auctioneers from Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota, South Dakota and Canada.

The association will hold its annual summer meeting and picnic in Cannon Falls this year.

• Alliance Bank announced last week the launch of mobile banking services for all of its personal banking customers.

A recent study by Independent Community Bankers of America showed that 37 percent of community banks offer mobile banking and another 44 percent will likely implement the service by 2014.

• Cannon River Winery will provide two award-winning wines at this year's St. Paul Winter Carnival, which will run Jan. 24 through Feb. 3.
