Business notebook: Eagle watch featured

"Where Eagles Soar" reads the headline in AAALiving magazine for January/February 2012.

The Red Wing Eagle Watch Weekend planned March 10 and 11 at Colvill Park dominates two-thirds of a page. Spotters will be on hand from noon to 3 p.m. to help people track the national raptor and answer questions.

"We've been on KARE 11, too," said Kathy Silverthorn, executive director of the Red Wing Visitors and Convention Bureau.

There's going to be an eagle in the Laurentine Room.

• Rod Johnson of Cannon Falls has been elected vice president of the Minnesota State Auctioneers Association. Johnson has served on the MSAA board of directors for three years. He will automatically move on to serve as the organization's state president in 2013.

Rod was also the recipient of the "Golden Gavel Award," presented at the MSAA's conference and show in January for his continued support of the state auctioneer's association.

He is the owner of Johnson Auctioneering, specializing in benefit auctions.

• Mayo Clinic Health System has redesigned its website, The new site became available Jan. 26.

The site redesign project is an extension of the health system's recent rebranding and more clearly identifies for patients and visitors the special relationship the health system has with Mayo Clinic, officials said.

• Fitch Ratings has affirmed Thrivent Financial for Lutherans' AA rating, the third-highest of Fitch's 19 categories.

Fitch cited Thrivent Financial's strong capitalization, conservative investment portfolio, consistent profitability, and favorable market position within the Lutheran market as part of the basis for the affirmation. The stable outlook was driven by the organization's strong capital base and Fitch's expectations that Thrivent Financial will sustain its solid operating performance in 2012.
